Chosun University Hospital recently saved the life of a young fan through a swift response to an emergency that occurred during the Hana Bank K League 1 2025 Round 15 match between Gwangju FC and Gangwon FC.
According to Chosun University Hospital on May 26, at around the 16th minute of the first half of the Gwangju FC match held at Gwangju World Cup Stadium in Seo-gu, Gwangju, a 13-year-old child in the stands collapsed with symptoms of heatstroke. Upon request from the referee, who noticed the situation, the medical team was immediately dispatched.
The medical staff quickly moved to the home team Gwangju FC supporters' section and provided emergency first aid. Thanks to their prompt actions, the child soon regained consciousness.
Park Sucheol, a nurse from Chosun University Hospital who was dispatched to the scene, recalled, "There was a call for help from the stands, and as soon as I heard the referee's whistle, I ran across the field to the opposite supporters' section and climbed up using a ladder."
He continued, "When I arrived, the patient's lips were very dry, the face was pale, and the body temperature was quite high. Fortunately, the child was somewhat conscious, but rapid cooling and hydration were needed. After safely moving the patient to a shaded area outside the stadium, we administered emergency care. The teamwork among the medical staff on site was excellent, which allowed us to respond quickly," he said.
Since 2010, Chosun University Hospital has served as the official medical partner of Gwangju FC, consistently providing ambulances and medical staff to respond to emergencies during matches. Professor Lee Junyoung from the Department of Orthopedic Surgery currently serves as the team doctor for Gwangju FC.
Meanwhile, Chosun University Hospital maintains a thorough medical support system not only for K League matches but also for various local sports events to prepare for potential emergencies.
