More than 20 types of disaster management resources, such as wildfire suppression helicopters and fire trucks, were mobilized for the event.
The Disaster Response Safety Korea Training, organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, has been held annually since 2005 to expand and strengthen the government-wide disaster response capabilities and to establish an advanced disaster management system. Based on the results of the recent Safety Korea Training, the Korea National Oil Corporation received an excellent rating for two consecutive years.
Through this large-scale joint disaster response training, the Korea National Oil Corporation aimed to strengthen its emergency response capabilities. The company also confirmed the effectiveness of its rapid cooperation and organic response system with related organizations, which are essential for minimizing the spread of damage and reducing casualties and property loss in the event of a disaster.
This training simulated a complex disaster scenario in which a hazardous material fire occurs on the top of a tank struck directly by lightning, the fire spreads to the front of the tank, and the resulting radiant heat causes a wildfire, leading to casualties.

원본보기 아이콘The Korea National Oil Corporation conducted the training in four stages: disaster occurrence, initial response, emergency response, and recovery.
In the disaster occurrence stage, the company immediately used the "Public Safety-LTE (PS-LTE)" disaster safety communication network to quickly share the situation with related organizations such as local governments, fire stations, and police stations. During the emergency response stage, the company carried out joint response activities with the fire and police departments, conducting the training at a level comparable to real-life situations.
The disaster safety communication network (PS-LTE) refers to a nationwide wireless communication network exclusively used by disaster-related agencies such as the police, fire department, and coast guard for disaster response operations.
In particular, the company demonstrated its initial disaster response capabilities by quickly dispersing the remaining oil in the burning tank to minimize damage and facilitating the prompt evacuation of nearby residents through rapid situational assessment. In addition, the company worked in cooperation with the Gokseong Fire Station to successfully conduct emergency rescue and mass casualty response training.
President Dongseop Kim of the Korea National Oil Corporation stated, "Through training that closely simulated real-life situations, we were able to thoroughly examine the initial response capabilities of the oil storage base and the cooperation system with related organizations." He added, "As the vanguard of protecting Korea's energy security, the Korea National Oil Corporation will continue to make every effort to ensure the safety and well-being of the public."
