The Consumer Sentiment Index for Gwangju and Jeonnam, which had been on the rise since December of last year, turned downward after four months.

According to the results of a consumer trends survey conducted by the Bank of Korea's Gwangju-Jeonnam branch on April 29, which targeted 600 urban households (with 526 responses) in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, the Consumer Composite Sentiment Index (CCSI) for April stood at 85.9, down 1.2 points from the previous month's 87.1.

The Consumer Composite Sentiment Index is a psychological indicator calculated using six major indices from the Consumer Sentiment Index (CSI), including current living conditions and outlook for consumer spending. The long-term average (from 2003 to 2024) is set as the baseline of 100; a value above this indicates optimism, while a value below indicates pessimism.

The index had risen from 79.4 in December of last year to 83.4 in January, 84.5 in February, and 87.1 in March of this year, but has now shown a decline.

The nationwide CCSI for this month was 93.8, up 0.4 points from the previous month's 93.4. This is interpreted as a result of worsening perceptions and outlooks regarding overall household finances. The Current Living Conditions CSI (80) fell by 1 point compared to last month, while the Living Conditions Outlook CSI (83) and Household Income Outlook CSI (90) also dropped by 2 points each compared to the previous month.

The Current Economic Assessment CSI (47), which reflects perceptions of the economic situation, dropped by 2 points from the previous month, but the Future Economic Outlook CSI (68) rose by 4 points. The Employment Opportunity Outlook CSI (69) and Interest Rate Outlook CSI (95) also increased by 4 points and 7 points, respectively.
