Jeonnam National University Hospital announced on April 29 that it has been selected as the representative institution for the Jeonnam region in the "Maternal and Neonatal Medical Care Cooperation Pilot Project," which plays a pivotal role in establishing a safe medical environment for high-risk pregnant women and newborns.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare selected the cooperative system for the "Maternal and Neonatal Medical Care Cooperation Pilot Project," and Jeonnam National University Hospital was the only institution chosen for the Jeonnam region. As a result, Jeonnam National University Hospital will operate the pilot project until December 2027.

The "Maternal and Neonatal Medical Care Cooperation Pilot Project" is a program that supports the establishment of a cooperative network between the highest-level medical institution (representative institution) and local specialized delivery institutions (participating institutions) in each region, in order to provide intensive care for high-risk pregnant women and newborns and ensure 24-hour emergency response. In each region, one representative institution will form a cooperative system with around 10 medical institutions, including local delivery centers and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) operators.

Jeonnam National University Hospital was selected as the representative institution for the Jeonnam region among the nine regions, and will participate in the pilot project together with 12 local delivery institutions. As the representative institution for maternal and neonatal medical care cooperation, it will play a central role. Jeonnam National University Hospital will receive up to 1.62 billion KRW per year, based on annual performance, for personnel expenses and medical care allowances.

Kim Yunha, Director of the Maternal and Neonatal Medical Center at Jeonnam National University Hospital, stated, "It is fortunate that the transfer and treatment of high-risk pregnant women and newborns, which had previously been managed in an unstructured way, can now be systematically established in cooperation with local specialized maternity hospitals. We will do our utmost to create a safe delivery environment in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions going forward."
