"Hotels Remain Attractive"... Korea Investment Corporation Explores Investment Opportunities in European Hospitality Sector

The 31st "London International Finance Council" Held

The sovereign wealth fund Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) announced on April 29 that it had invited local real estate investment experts in London and Korean institutional investors to explore investment opportunities in the European hospitality sector, including hotels, this year.

On April 28 (local time), KIC held the 31st 'London International Finance Council' organized by its London branch. More than 30 participants attended, including representatives from the Korean government and public investment institutions, as well as domestic securities firms, banks, and insurance companies based in London.

John Hubbard, head of European hotel and hospitality investment at global real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield, stated, "The European hotel industry is currently in a cycle moving from recovery to expansion," and predicted, "If the current trend continues, the total value of hotel transactions in Europe this year will reach about 25 billion euros, surpassing last year's figure of approximately 22 billion euros." He explained, "This is the result of experienced private equity investors making large-scale investments last year, reflecting renewed interest in the hotel industry," and added, "For institutional investors with abundant capital, the hotel industry remains an attractive investment destination."

However, he also noted, "Growth patterns will be differentiated depending on the region and segment," and forecasted, "Regions where tourism and business demand are balanced, as well as the luxury hotel sector, will continue to see robust growth this year."

Lee Geonwoong, head of KIC's London branch and organizer of the event, commented, "It was a valuable opportunity to examine the trends in the European hotel and hospitality real estate market, which has recently attracted increased investor interest, and to discuss outlooks and investment opportunities," and added, "We will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with domestic investment institutions."

KIC operates overseas branches and offices in global financial centers, including New York and San Francisco in the United States, London in the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Mumbai in India. Each overseas branch and office strives to share overseas investment information with domestic public and private financial institutions operating locally and to establish mutual cooperation systems.
