The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced on April 29 that it will host the 2nd GIST Science Imagination Children's Art Contest on May 17 at the GIST Oryong Hall area.
This year's contest, held under the slogan "Draw the Universe," is jointly sponsored by the GIST Development Foundation, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Mujin Service Co., Ltd., Korea Three Axis Co., Ltd., and NH Networks Co., Ltd.
As part of its external cooperation vision to add the value of "sharing" to science and technology, GIST plans to reaffirm the meaning of sharing and further expand its coexistence with the local community through this second annual contest, following last year's event.
The contest is open to kindergarteners and elementary school students nationwide, as well as children of equivalent ages. Applications can be submitted via the GIST website or by scanning the QR code on the poster. The number of participants is limited to 50 in the kindergarten category, 100 in the lower elementary category (grades 1-3), and 50 in the upper elementary category (grades 4-6), for a total of 200 participants. Registration will close once capacity is reached.
Participants will be provided with drawing paper and a snack box. However, they must bring their own art supplies (of their choice), picnic mats, and lunch. On the day of the contest, participants will submit their artwork on the provided size 8 drawing paper, depicting either an imaginative scene based on the theme of the universe or their vision of GIST's future landscape. All participants will receive a commemorative gift, and every kindergarten participant who completes and submits their artwork will receive a prize without a separate award process.
The submitted works will be evaluated by experts in the field of art, with a total of 47 winners selected. Awards will include the GIST President's Award, the GIST Development Foundation Chairman's Award, and the Sponsors' Presidents' Awards. Notably, the winning works will be exhibited for about one month in the "Oryong Art Hall," a gallery space created on the first and second floor interior walls of Oryong Hall on the GIST campus to promote exchange and cooperation with the local community.
Jung Yonghwa, Vice President for External Affairs, stated, "This children's art contest will be a valuable opportunity to support children's brilliant imagination and creativity, and to bring GIST closer to the local community." He added, "GIST will continue to do its best to practice the values of sharing and coexistence through science and technology, and to grow together with the local community."
