Gyeonggi Province Selects 279 Households for Senior Housing Renovation Support

Gyeonggi Province has selected a total of 279 households this year for its 'Senior Safety Housing' project.

The Senior Safety Housing project has been implemented since 2023 as a customized home renovation initiative for older adults, aiming to prevent falls and improve their ability to live independently. The project includes the installation of safety handrails, the application of non-slip flooring, the removal of door thresholds, lighting improvements, and the demolition of bathtubs, among other measures tailored to the needs of each recipient.

This year’s recipients were finalized by Gyeonggi Province after applications were received from each city and county, targeting basic pension recipients aged 65 or older residing in the province. The selected recipients include the oldest participant, who was born in 1925.

The project is overseen by Gyeonggi Province, with Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) acting as the entrusted agency responsible for on-site inspections, construction, and post-management.

Gyeonggi Province will begin conducting on-site inspections sequentially starting in May, and renovation work will be carried out for each selected household.

Lee Eunseon, Director of Housing Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Since seniors aged 100 or older are also included in the project, we will implement the initiative more promptly and thoroughly to ensure the residential safety of the elderly population."
