The Gwangju Emergency Action for Liquidation of Insurrection and Major Social Reform on the 23rd called on the Democratic Party's presidential candidates, ahead of the upcoming Honam primary, to present a roadmap for ending insurrection, a citizen-led agenda for major social reform and constitutional amendment, and a plan for the development of the Honam region.
In a statement released that day, Gwangju Emergency Action declared, "This primary should not merely be a process for selecting candidates, but must serve as a platform for pledging the liquidation of insurrection and the strengthening of popular sovereignty."
Candidates for the Democratic Party's presidential primary attended the "Chungcheong Region Joint Debate for the Selection of the 21st Presidential Election Candidates" held at Cheongju Gymnasium in Chungbuk on the afternoon of the 19th. They also called for the formalization of citizen-led discussions on major social reform and constitutional amendment to address social inequality and the spread of far-right extremism, and urged that, after the inauguration of the new government, these efforts be elevated to a national commission to guarantee public participation.
The group further demanded measures to expand youth employment and promote balanced regional development. Gwangju Emergency Action stated, "Although energy produced in Honam powers the capital region, high-quality jobs remain concentrated only in the capital area," and called for solutions to address this structural discrimination.
They added, "This Honam primary must be an occasion where these three tasks are clearly pledged," urging the candidates to provide responsible answers.
