Iksan City in North Jeolla Province will strengthen enforcement of driving suspension orders for vehicles that have not undergone mandatory inspections for more than one year, in order to ensure safe vehicle operation.
According to the city on April 23, regular vehicle inspections must be completed within 90 days before the expiration date of the inspection validity period or within 31 days after expiration. The inspection cycle varies by vehicle type, ranging from every six months to every two years.
If the inspection is delayed, a fine of up to 600,000 won may be imposed. If a vehicle remains uninspected for more than one year, it may be subject to a driving suspension order. Operating a vehicle under a driving suspension order may result in the vehicle being deregistered ex officio under the Automobile Management Act, and the owner may face up to one year of imprisonment or a fine of up to 10 million won.
An official from the Vehicle Registration Office stated, "If it is impossible to undergo the inspection due to unavoidable circumstances such as an accident, maintenance, or theft, you can apply for an inspection deferment within the validity period." The official also emphasized, "For your safety and the safety of your family, it is essential to have your vehicle inspected within the designated period."
