This academy was organized to further strengthen the expertise of community-friendly civilian instructors who are responsible for enhancing residents' autonomous disaster prevention capabilities in preparation for radiological emergencies, through specialized educational institutions.
The curriculum focused on several key areas: basic and advanced education on radiation disaster prevention, lecture techniques, methods for preparing lecture materials, resident evacuation procedures during disasters, individual demonstration evaluations, and instructions on how to use protective gear for residents.
The civilian instructors participating in the training were selected from among local residents of Yeonggwang, fostering a sense of familiarity with the community.
In 2023, the first class trained 17 instructors, and in 2024, the second class trained 18 instructors. This year, the third academy provided advanced training for 12 instructors who had previously completed the program. Last year, the second class of civilian instructors conducted on-site radiation disaster prevention education for 2,089 people at 135 senior centers in 11 towns and villages across Yeonggwang County.
A Yeonggwang County official stated, "Through this academy, we hope that instructors will educate residents about radiation disaster prevention in a way that is easy to understand, based on a correct understanding of nuclear power and radiation, even though these topics may seem difficult."
