Jeonnam Province Focuses on On-Site Coastal Accident Prevention

Jeonnam Province conducted a joint inspection for coastal accident prevention in the first half of 2025 on April 21, proactively responding to the increasing number of coastal accidents each year and aiming to protect the lives and property of residents and tourists.

The inspection was carried out through a collaborative system involving Jeonnam Province, the Korea Coast Guard, and local city and county governments, and is also scheduled to take place in the second half of the year. In particular, the focus was placed not only on inspecting facilities but also on comprehensively assessing on-site safety conditions and developing practical accident prevention measures.

Alongside this inspection, Jeonnam Province is continuing projects to install and renovate safety facilities for coastal accident prevention. This includes installing or upgrading safety signs, warning boards, life-saving equipment, and vehicle fall-prevention barriers in coastal high-risk areas with frequent access, targeting more than 80 locations each year.

Based on the inspection results, the province plans to expand the installation of customized facilities that reflect the unique characteristics and risk factors of each region.

This year, Jeonnam Province also secured a budget to provide equipment for coastal safety guard members, further strengthening a field response system centered on the private sector.

Going forward, Jeonnam Province will continue to closely cooperate with relevant agencies to support the installation of safety facilities for coastal accident prevention, secure budgets for equipment for coastal safety guards, and conduct regular joint inspections along with promotional campaigns to raise awareness about coastal accident prevention.
