Kang Minseok, Head of Substrate Materials at LG Innotek, Receives Order of Science and Technology Merit

Securing Scientific and Technological Competitiveness in Optics and Semiconductor Substrates

Kang Minseok, Vice President and Head of the Substrate Materials Division at LG Innotek, received the Ungbi Medal of the Order of Science and Technology Merit at the 2025 Science and ICT Day Commemoration Ceremony.


According to LG Innotek on April 21, the Order of Science and Technology Merit is an honor established to commemorate the annual "Science and ICT Day" and to promote the advancement of national science and technology. It is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of national science and technology through continuous research and development of innovative technologies.


Vice President Kang joined LG Innotek in 2015 as Head of the Advanced Components Research Center and has since served as Head of the Optical Solutions Division and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), before assuming his current role as Head of the Substrate Materials Division. He was selected as this year's recipient in recognition of his contributions to strengthening the nation's scientific and technological competitiveness in the fields of optics and semiconductor substrates.

Vice President Kang contributed to making LG Innotek's mobile camera module and semiconductor substrate businesses global leaders through the development of core technologies. Notably, in the field of semiconductor substrates, he applied world-first technologies and processes, thereby strengthening the company's position in the global market for RF-SiP (Radio Frequency System-in-Package) and AiP (Antenna-in-Package) products.


In particular, leveraging the expertise in digital transformation (DX) and artificial intelligence (AI) he accumulated during his tenure as CTO, he actively led the DX of research and development and production processes. The FC-BGA (Flip Chip-Ball Grid Array) Dream Factory (Gumi Plant 4), which he spearheaded, has achieved full automation of logistics and inspection processes, making it recognized as an industry-leading smart factory.


Vice President Kang stated, "I am very pleased that LG Innotek's innovation and competitiveness have been recognized with this award," and added, "We will continue to drive relentless innovation and challenges in the materials and components sector, leading Korea to become a global technology leader."
