Jongpil Park, a proportional representative of the People Power Party in the Daegu City Council, will express his support for Daegu's "Textile·Fashion Industry Renaissance" policy during a five-minute free speech at the 316th extraordinary session's second plenary meeting on April 22. He will also state that bolder strategies are needed to foster smart textiles and restore the regional fashion culture ecosystem.
Park will emphasize, "Smart textiles, which are next-generation textiles incorporating advanced technologies such as sensors and nanomaterials, present a decisive opportunity for Daegu to once again become a central hub of the textile industry." He will stress the urgent need for joint research and development and commercialization investments involving local universities, research institutes, and companies.
Park will add, "The recent development of smart textiles at DGIST and the rapid moves in North Gyeongsang Province offer very important implications," and state, "Now is the golden time for Daegu to take the initiative and lead the market."
Meanwhile, Park will also raise concerns about the shrinking regional fashion culture ecosystem. He will point out that major events such as the Daegu Collection and the Textile and Fashion Encounter Exhibition are being scaled down each year due to budget shortages, and emphasize the urgent need for greater public interest and support for fashion events.
Park will state, "Textiles and fashion must go together, like thread and needle," and argue that expanding fashion content in connection with existing large-scale festivals such as the Powerful Festival is necessary to establish a cultural foundation where citizens and industry can breathe together.
He will conclude by saying, "While we weave clothes with thread, what the textile and fashion industries are weaving together is the future of Daegu," and emphasize that Daegu City and the City Council must join forces so that this textile·fashion renaissance becomes an opportunity not only for industrial recovery but also for the city's overall resurgence."
