The Chungnam Provincial Council's "Chungnam Character Education Activation Research Group" held its inauguration ceremony and first meeting in Conference Room 303 of the council on the afternoon of April 21. The group has launched a research project to develop a model for physical activity aimed at fostering student character and to promote supportive policy research.

The Character Education Activation Research Group consists of 11 members. It was established to address social issues such as weakened community spirit and the rise in school violence since the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to cultivate moral values that have become increasingly important in the age of AI.

During the first meeting, participants shared information on the 2025 character education budgets and major project statuses of Chungnam Province and the Chungnam Office of Education. Professor Jang Mikyung of Namseoul University also presented the implementation plan for the research project titled "Research on Physical Activity Models and Support Policies for Fostering Student Character."

The research project will focus on fostering core character traits such as cooperation, respect, responsibility, and empathy through physical activities. Key initiatives will include analyzing domestic and international cases, conducting demand surveys among teachers and students, and developing policy models.

The research group plans to develop practical policy measures tailored to the realities of Chungnam, such as school-community linked character education programs, teacher capacity-building training, and the discovery and dissemination of exemplary cases of character education.

In particular, the group will also seek policy and institutional support measures to ensure the effective establishment and expansion of physical activity-based character education.

Bang Hanil, the representative of the group, stated, "Various educational approaches, including physical activities, are necessary to cultivate the core character traits required by the era of artificial intelligence and the society of the future. I hope this research group will serve as a new milestone for Chungnam's character education policy."
