Targeting Six Elementary Schools...
Encouraging Empathy and Action Through Student-Centered Musicals

Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province will implement a "Traveling Children's Character Musical Performance" for elementary schools from April 21 to April 30 as a measure to prevent the recent rise in school violence and cyberbullying, as well as to help restore peer relationships.

This initiative was organized to allow students to naturally understand proper community values and emotions through a performance, at a time when the importance of character education is being emphasized. The program will be held six times at six elementary schools selected through advance applications in March.

The performances will be delivered by a professional troupe that visits each school, sets up the stage, and performs on-site, allowing students to enjoy the show comfortably in their familiar school environment.

The musicals are presented under the themes of either "Cybers" or "Unmasking," depending on the school's preference, and are structured around real-life situations that can occur in school, such as school violence, cyberbullying, ostracism, and conflicts between friends. In particular, the actors interact directly with students by moving between the stage and the audience, and some scenes involve students participating on stage, thereby increasing engagement and providing students with an opportunity to experience and empathize with character education firsthand.

Kim Hojung, Director of Seonbi Talent Development, stated, "Through this participatory character musical, which is different from traditional lecture-based education, we hope students will easily recognize the seriousness of school violence and experience the values of respect and consideration. We will continue to promote character education initiatives tailored to the students' perspectives."
