The city of Asan, Chungnam Province, announced on April 21 that approximately 7,500 people participated in the 3rd Yi Sun-sin Baekui Jonggun-gil Marathon, which was held on Ginkgo Tree Road on April 20.

This marathon is one of the programs of the 64th Seongung Yi Sun-sin Festival. The race started at Ginkgo Tree Road and was divided into 5km, 10km, half, and full course distances along the Baekui Jonggun-gil and Hyo-ui-gil sections.

A total of 7,411 people participated in the event. Of these, 2,300 runners, accounting for 31% of all participants, have competed for three consecutive years.

The opening ceremony was attended by Asan Mayor Oh Sehyun, Asan City Council Vice Chairman Maeng Uiseok, National Assembly members Bok Giwang and Kang Hunsik, and former marathoner Hwang Youngjo, among others.

Mayor Oh Sehyun stated, "This event features a premium course that recreates the Hyo-ui-gil section of the Baekui Jonggun-gil, which Admiral Yi Sun-sin walked from Seoul to Hapcheon," adding, "It is meaningful as it reminds us of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's spirit of loyalty and filial piety."
