Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province is inviting proposals for its 'Resident Participatory Budget Projects' to reflect citizens' voices in next year's budget.
The resident participatory budget is a system that allows citizens to directly participate in the budgeting process, with a focus on resolving inconveniences experienced in daily life and enhancing public benefits. Yangsan City has been operating this system since 2011.
The total amount allocated for the resident participatory budget to be included in the 2026 budget is 2 billion won. For citizen participation-type general projects, up to 300 million won can be applied for per project. For region-led projects discovered by local organizations such as eup, myeon, and dong resident councils, up to 20 million won per project can be applied for.
Project proposals submitted during the application period will undergo feasibility reviews by relevant departments and subcommittees, as well as deliberation and prioritization by the Resident Participatory Budget Committee, before being included in the 2026 budget draft. Final confirmation will be made through approval by the city council. The final selection results will be available on the Yangsan City website.
Any Yangsan citizen may submit a project proposal, and applications can be made online during the application period via the city website (Communication·Participation → Resident Participatory Budget → Resident Participatory Budget Project Proposal → Apply). For those who have difficulty using the internet, written applications can also be submitted at the administrative welfare center of their local eup, myeon, or dong.
A Yangsan City official stated, "We will spare no effort to support the discovery of many innovative projects," and added, "We ask for active participation so that many projects that citizens can truly appreciate will be reflected in the budget."
