Jeonjangyeon Resumes Morning Subway Boarding Protest at Hyehwa Station After About a Year
Northbound Line 4 Delayed Over 10 Minutes; Southbound Trains Passing Hyehwa Without Stopping

The National Solidarity for the Elimination of Disability Discrimination (Jeonjangyeon) has resumed its subway boarding protests during the morning commute. This marks the first time in about a year that Jeonjangyeon has staged a subway boarding protest during the morning rush hour since April 8 last year. Due to this protest, the northbound service on Seoul Subway Line 4 (from Hyehwa Station to Dongdaemun Station) was delayed by more than 10 minutes, and as of 9:30 a.m., southbound trains at Hyehwa Station were passing through without stopping.

Starting at 8:00 a.m. on the same day, Jeonjangyeon began its 62nd "Taking the Subway to Work" protest, traveling from Hyehwa Station on Line 4 to National Assembly Station on Line 9. From 7:00 a.m., about 100 Jeonjangyeon members gathered on the Hyehwa Station platform and occupied a 40-meter section from the 5-1 to 7-1 platform areas in the direction of Dongdaemun Station.

At 11:00 a.m., Jeonjangyeon plans to deliver its policy demands to each political party in front of the main building of the National Assembly in Yeouido, and then move to the nearby Eroom Center at 1:00 p.m. to participate in a rally organized by the National Association of Parents of Persons with Disabilities. Seoul Metro will deploy safety personnel and subway security officers at Hyehwa Station to assist passenger movement.

This is the first time in about a year that Jeonjangyeon has staged a subway boarding protest during the morning commute since April 8 last year. Previously, since December 2021, Jeonjangyeon has continued protests in downtown Seoul, demanding the guarantee of mobility rights for people with disabilities. Jeonjangyeon stated, "Over the past year, we halted our morning commute subway boarding protests and instead staged die-in demonstrations?lying down on platforms to urge the National Assembly to pass disability rights legislation?but our demands have not been met," explaining the reason for resuming the boarding protests.
