LG Display Becomes First in Industry to Develop and Implement In-House AI Assistant

10% Improvement in Work Efficiency, Boosting Productivity
Fundamental Prevention of Information Leakage Using EXAONE 3.5

On April 21, LG Display announced that it will implement and apply its self-developed artificial intelligence (AI) assistant service to actual business operations in order to enhance employee productivity. The company explained that LG Display is the first in the industry to both develop and introduce an AI assistant using its own technology.

According to LG Display, the AI assistant service helps employees work more efficiently by providing features such as automatic translation for video conferences and AI-generated meeting minutes. In the first half of the year, additional data processing functions will be introduced, including AI email summarization and natural language-based indicator analysis. In the second half, the service will expand to more complex tasks, such as a 'document drafting assistant function' that can create draft PowerPoint presentations for reporting purposes.

The AI assistant service has been shown to improve daily work productivity by about 10% compared to previous levels. This allows employees to manage approximately 50 minutes more efficiently out of a standard eight-hour workday. LG Display explained that the time saved can be redirected to high value-added tasks, further enhancing productivity. The company plans to increase work productivity by more than 30% within three years by expanding the use of the AI assistant service.

The AI assistant service was built as a plug-in by adding AI applications to the existing internal intranet, 'Let's.' Because the existing infrastructure is fully utilized, employees can naturally access and conveniently use the AI assistant service within their usual work environment. LG Display also emphasized that by developing the service in-house, it has reduced external subscription costs by more than 10 billion KRW.

The AI assistant service developed by LG Display incorporates an LLM (Large Language Model), which serves as the core AI engine, to fundamentally prevent external information leakage. The LLM utilizes 'EXAONE 3.5,' which was independently developed by LG AI Research. The 'EXAONE 3.5 Ultra-Lightweight Model' has been recognized for its superiority over competing LLMs, ranking first in the Edge category of the leaderboard on Hugging Face, the world's largest AI platform. The development of the plug-in AI apps integrated into the AI assistant service was carried out in collaboration with LG CNS.

Lee Byungseung, head of the DX Group (Executive Director) at LG Display, stated, "With the introduction of the AI assistant service, we have been able to maximize individual work productivity, reduce simple tasks, and increase overall productivity," adding, "We will focus on strengthening our AX (AI Transformation) capabilities to create differentiated customer value."
