Police Support Program for Pedal Misoperation Prevention Devices for Elderly Drivers

The National Police Agency announced on the 16th that it will carry out a support project for pedal misoperation prevention devices for elderly drivers in collaboration with the General Insurance Association of Korea and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.

The pedal misoperation prevention device has a function that controls sudden acceleration when it occurs during stopping or low-speed driving.


This recruitment targets approximately 200 elderly drivers aged 65 or older residing in five regions: Yeongdong-gun in Chungbuk, Seocheon-gun in Chungnam, Jinan-gun in Jeonbuk, Yeongam-gun in Jeonnam, and Seongju-gun in Gyeongbuk. About 700 more applicants will be recruited in the second half of this year.


Applicants must submit the application form, driver's license, vehicle registration certificate, and other required documents by mail or in person to the regional headquarters of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority near their residence from the 21st of this month to the 9th of next month.


The application form can be downloaded from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority website, and can also be obtained at nearby police stations, police substations, and regional headquarters of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority in the respective areas.


Lee Ho-young, Acting Commissioner of the National Police Agency, said, "Ensuring safe mobility is essential for traffic safety of the elderly," adding, "We plan to implement various policies starting with this project."
