Yangsan City Achieves First Place in This Year's City and County Joint Major Task Evaluation

Yangsan City in Gyeongnam Province was recognized as the most diligent local government in implementing major government policies and key provincial initiatives last year, achieving first place in the 'Joint Evaluation of Key City-County Tasks' and being selected as an outstanding local government for the first time in eight years.

The Joint Evaluation of Key City-County Tasks is a comprehensive assessment conducted by Gyeongnam Province every year for its 18 cities and counties, in connection with the government-wide evaluation organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. This evaluation measures the performance of basic local governments in implementing major national policies and key provincial initiatives.

Depending on the evaluation results, each local government's administrative capabilities are objectively recognized, and provincial financial incentives are distributed differentially. As such, local governments make significant efforts to achieve excellent results, and the importance of this evaluation continues to grow.

This year, the quantitative evaluation compared the achievement rates of city and county targets across 100 indicators in all areas, including health, economy, welfare, culture, forestry, and environment. The qualitative evaluation ranked cities and counties by the number of exemplary cases selected out of 22 indicators. The final results were confirmed through mutual verification among cities and counties and performance verification by the provincial joint evaluation team.

Yangsan City achieved a target accomplishment rate of 94.5% in the quantitative evaluation, ranking first (Jinju second, Geoje third), and secured third place in the qualitative evaluation with eight exemplary cases selected, marking its best performance ever. As a result, Yangsan City was selected as an outstanding local government, receiving a Governor's Commendation and securing a special adjustment grant of 210 million won.

An official from Yangsan City stated, "Achieving first place in the evaluation of over 120 administrative indicators is the result of the collective effort of all public officials in Yangsan City," adding, "It is a very meaningful achievement that not only demonstrates the significant improvement in Yangsan City's administrative capabilities but also objectively proves its enhanced administrative power."

The official also said, "Since the joint city-county evaluation is directly related to improving citizens' convenience and welfare, we will continue to achieve excellent evaluation results through systematic and consistent performance management in the future."

Following its selection as the top local government in the financial analysis results last December, Yangsan City has continued to achieve outstanding results in various administrative evaluations this year, including being selected as an excellent institution in the disaster management evaluation and the comprehensive local tax administration evaluation.
