US Consumer Price Index Rose 2.4% in March, Below Market Expectations

The U.S. Department of Labor announced on the 10th (local time) that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March rose 2.4% compared to the same month last year. Compared to the previous month, it fell by 0.1%.

Prices of vegetables such as cabbage, radish, and carrots are rising one after another, turning concerns about food prices into reality. This is below market expectations. Experts surveyed by Dow Jones had forecasted a 2.6% increase year-over-year and a 0.1% increase month-over-month.

The core CPI, which excludes the volatile energy and food sectors, rose 2.8% year-over-year and 0.1% month-over-month. This also fell short of expert forecasts of a 3% year-over-year increase and a 0.2% month-over-month increase.
