The TK New Airport construction is not just a simple SOC project but a military-civilian integrated airport relocation project, directly linked to national security. In order to urge for stable policy implementation unaffected by political circumstances, Chairperson Lee Mangyu and the expanded leadership team have joined forces to carry out this campaign.
The TK New Airport construction project aims to create a logistics and passenger complex airport in the central southern region, alleviating the investment concentration in the capital area and restructuring towards a sustainable economic and industrial framework. The local community has voiced the need for consistent and responsible government policy implementation.
Chairperson Lee Mangyu stated, "The TK New Airport construction is a national infrastructure project directly linked to national security and should not be swayed by political circumstances," and urged, "The government must make a wise and responsible decision to provide stable financial support."
He further emphasized, "Since the construction of the TK New Airport is the united aspiration of the people of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, all regional capabilities, including political circles across party lines, civil society, and the business community, must be brought together."
Previously, Chairperson Lee Mangyu proposed institutional improvements, such as making state responsibility for the military airport relocation project a basic principle, at the 7th Temporary Meeting of the 2024 National Council of Metropolitan and Provincial Council Chairpersons held in November last year. The proposal was unanimously adopted by the council.
