Ranked Third Among the Most Influential Figures in the Asian Golf Industry
Elevating the Status of K-Golf Through Charity Concerts
Chairman Choi Deung-gyu of Daebo Group has been named among the most influential figures in Asian golf for four consecutive years.
According to the American golf magazine Golf Inc on the 10th, Chairman Choi was ranked 3rd in the "The Most Powerful People in the Asian Golf Industry" top 10 list, following last year.
Golf Inc is one of the three major golf media outlets in the United States and has been selecting and announcing the most influential figures in the golf industry since 1998.
Chairman Choi elevated the status of K-Golf through the global Korean Wave concert, the Seowon Valley Charity Green Concert. The Green Concert, which began in 2000, is Daebo Group's representative social contribution activity. Korean Wave stars participate in the performances on the golf course fairways as talent donors. On the day of the concert, the fairways and bunkers are opened as playgrounds for children and families, and the fairways of nine holes are transformed into parking lots.
This large-scale festival has positively changed perceptions of golf and fostered community harmony, attracting a cumulative audience of 570,000 and raising a total of 700 million KRW in charity funds. The 21st Green Concert will be held on the 31st of next month.
In 2023, Chairman Choi was also appointed as the inaugural chairman of the Didimdol Foundation, established to support golf players who will shine in Korea and to expand the base of golf. Additionally, he has supported players in difficult circumstances by utilizing the infrastructure of Seowon Valley Golf Course.
He has also conducted scholarship programs selecting promising players as outstanding students, granting them free access to the Seowon Academy practice facilities. Last year, he received the National Brand Award in the sports globalization category at the "2024 National Brand Conference."
Meanwhile, Daebo Group has been hosting the KLPGA "Daebo House D Open" since 2021. The 5th tournament is scheduled to take place at Seowon Hills from November 7 to 9. In August, following last year, the amateur major tournament KGA Choi Deung-gyu Cup MaeKyung Amateur Golf Championship will be held at Seowon Valley. In 2022, men's and women's golf teams were also established.
