The Gwangju High Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Kim Jinwhan) on the 10th overturned the original verdict in the appeal trial of A (33), who was indicted on charges of attempted murder, and sentenced her to two years in prison, suspended for three years. The court also ordered A to undergo two years of probation, perform 120 hours of community service, and imposed a five-year employment restriction at institutions related to children and adolescents.

The court explained the reason for the reduced sentence, stating, "The defendant is reflecting on her crime, and during the appeal, the victim and their family expressed that they do not wish for punishment."

A was brought to trial on charges of attempting to murder her friend's 7-year-old son at an apartment in Mokpo, Jeonnam, in March last year. According to the investigation, A, while drinking with her friend, felt an "impulse to harm a child" and committed the crime while her friend was asleep. The crime was not completed because the friend woke up upon hearing the child's cries.

The court of first instance sentenced A to two years in prison, but the appellate court reduced the sentence after accepting the victim's family's wish not to punish her.
