The city of Gwangju announced on the 10th that it is recruiting participants for the 'Gwangju 100 Fathers Group,' a representative gathering of fathers in Gwangju who actively participate in childcare, until the 21st.
The '100 Fathers Group,' jointly organized by the city of Gwangju, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Planned Population Federation of Korea, is a group where first-time fathers or those interested in childcare can gather to share their concerns and parenting know-how. It began in 2019 and is now in its 7th year.
Any father residing in Gwangju who is raising children aged 3 to 9 is eligible to participate. This year, the city has expanded the eligible age range from the previous 3 to 7 years old to 3 to 9 years old, providing more fathers with opportunities to participate in childcare.
Selected members of the 100 Fathers Group can participate for free in various experiential programs with their children and will receive commemorative gifts. In addition, through the official community of the Fathers Group, they can take part in weekly online missions and network with fathers from across the country to share parenting experiences and tips.
Lee Youngdong, Director of the Department of Women and Family, said, "By expanding opportunities for men to participate in childcare, we aim to foster a positive atmosphere for co-parenting and make Gwangju a better place to raise children." He added, "We hope many fathers will join the 100 Fathers Group, where they can create happy memories with their children and share parenting know-how."
