Kim Eungkyu, a member of the Chungnam Provincial Council from the People Power Party, called for the expansion of school sports facility openings to promote community sports on the 10th.

During the third plenary session of the 358th temporary council meeting held in the main assembly hall that day, Kim pointed out, "There are as many as 156 schools in the district that have never opened their sports facilities," adding, "School principals are reluctant to open them due to concerns about safety accidents, management responsibility, and lack of budget."

He continued, "Even though the official opening rates for gymnasiums and playgrounds are 84.1% and 93.7% respectively, residents still feel that school sports facilities are tightly locked." He added, "In Seoul, the city has invested 2.2 billion won in opening school sports facilities, providing 50 million won per school."

He went on to say, "Chungnam Province and the Office of Education should take the lead in opening up school facilities through agreements," and requested, "Please support operating costs and management personnel to resolve conflicts between schools and residents and to further expand facility openings."
