On the 10th, Gwangmyeong City announced that it is recruiting apartment complexes to participate in the "Climate Action Excellence Apartment Selection Project" to spread a culture of climate change response practice until the 25th.

This project aims to encourage energy saving, resource circulation, and carbon-neutral lifestyle practices within apartment complexes, and to discover and spread excellent cases of resident-led climate action.

Eligible applicants are multi-family housing complexes that completed move-in before May of last year. The city will evaluate the applying complexes based on ▲energy saving performance ▲participation in lights-off campaigns ▲installation of renewable energy such as solar power ▲reduction of recyclable waste output ▲resident participation in carbon neutrality, and select six excellent complexes.

Selected complexes will receive a total prize money of 25 million KRW and a certification plaque according to the number of households and evaluation grade. For complexes with 800 or more households, one grand prize winner will receive 7 million KRW, and two excellence winners will receive 4 million KRW each. For complexes with fewer than 800 households, one grand prize winner will receive 5 million KRW, and two excellence winners will receive 2.5 million KRW each. The prize money can be used for carbon-neutral activities within the complex such as community activities, installation of eco-friendly facilities, and resident education programs after consultation in resident meetings.

Apartment complexes wishing to participate can fill out the application form posted on the Gwangmyeong City Hall website and submit it by visiting the Carbon Neutrality Division at City Hall or by email.

No Jin-nam, head of the Carbon Neutrality Division of Gwangmyeong City, said, "Apartment complexes, which are the living spaces closest to citizens' daily lives, can be the starting point for responding to the climate crisis," and added, "We hope to discover a carbon-neutral model practiced together by residents."
