Incheon City announced on the 10th that it will implement the 'Incheon Regional Heritage System' for the first time this year to protect various tangible and intangible heritages not included in the national heritage preservation and management system, and to transform them into Incheon-style historical and cultural assets.
The Incheon Regional Heritage System selects events, figures, and everyday stories remaining in Incheon's history as regional heritage, preserving, managing, and utilizing them as treasures for future generations 100 years from now.
First, the city will discover preliminary candidates in five fields: urban, history, industry, living culture, and arts and culture, through recommendations from 10 districts, experts, citizens, and organizations.
Then, after review by the Incheon Regional Heritage Committee, the candidate group will be selected, followed by expert investigation and research, and consent procedures from the owners of the respective heritage. Finally, the heritage will be officially selected as Incheon Regional Heritage through the final review by the city’s Regional Heritage Committee.
The city expects that through this system, it will be possible to discover and preserve various heritages with Incheon's identity led by citizens, moving away from the rigid standards of the existing national heritage system.
An Incheon city official stated, "We will select various regional heritages containing Incheon's identity and sentiment to enhance citizens' pride and create an opportunity to promote Incheon's history and culture."
