Daejeon City announced that it will distribute 299 electric motorcycles this year to reduce urban air pollution and create a pleasant atmospheric environment.
The allocation includes 209 units for general use (70%), 60 units for delivery use (20%), and 30 units for priority groups (10%). Applications can be submitted at electric motorcycle manufacturers' and importers' dealerships starting from the 10th until the budget is exhausted.
The city will provide differentiated subsidies for each model, taking into account size, type, and performance. The subsidy amounts are up to 1.4 million KRW for light models, 2.3 million KRW for small models, 2.7 million KRW for medium and other types, and 3 million KRW for large models.
Each individual can purchase one unit, corporations up to ten units, and sole proprietors up to two units.
From this year, the eligibility requirements have been relaxed, allowing individuals, corporations, and public institutions who have resided continuously for at least 30 days (down from the previous 90 days) to apply.
Small business owners, vulnerable groups (persons with disabilities or those in lower income brackets), and farmers are eligible for an additional 20% of the national subsidy. For delivery-use electric motorcycles, if a certificate is submitted proving at least six months of paid transport insurance (including hourly) or at least three months of unpaid transport insurance, an additional 10% subsidy from both national and city funds will be provided.
Subsidies are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Daejeon City pays the subsidy directly to the electric motorcycle manufacturer or importer, and the purchaser pays the remaining amount to the respective company.
Moon Changyong, Director of Daejeon City's Environmental Bureau, said, "We hope that the distribution of electric motorcycles will improve Daejeon's air quality and contribute to the creation of a sustainable transportation environment."
