Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam Province, officially announced his decision not to run in the early presidential election through social media on the 10th.
Governor Kim stated, "I have concluded that now is not the time for me, Kim Taeheum," and added, "I will devote myself solely to provincial administration."
He described the current political situation as "a grave period marked by confusion due to extreme ideological confrontation and heightened uncertainty caused by the global tariff war," and explained, "In this situation, I have deeply contemplated my role and calling."
Regarding a presidential bid, he said, "It should not become a means for political advancement or preparing for the next election," adding, "This has always been my belief, and I am not sufficiently prepared."
Governor Kim urged the People Power Party, "Although I understand the tight schedule, if the party relies solely on anti-Lee Jaemyung sentiment to contest the election, it is doomed to fail," emphasizing, "Reflection and self-examination regarding the impeachment of the party's president must come first."
He added, "The conservative camp must use the early presidential election as an opportunity to present its philosophy and vision for the future and to undergo a complete transformation," and continued, "I will do my utmost to find ways to contribute while faithfully carrying out my duties as governor."
