Commemorative Ceremony for Library Day to Be Held on April 12
Awards for Contributors to Library Development

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 10th that, together with the National Library Committee, it will hold the '3rd Library Day' commemorative ceremony under the theme 'Planting Seeds of Dreams, Asking the Library' at 11 a.m. on the 12th at the National Library of Korea.

'Library Day' is a legally designated commemorative day in 2023 to raise public awareness of the value of libraries and promote their use.


At this commemorative ceremony, awards for contributions to library development, the declaration ceremony for the 'Today I Visited the Library' campaign, performances, lectures, and experiential events will be held. Awards will be presented to 18 individuals and 3 organizations selected as contributors to library development in six categories for 2025, 3 central administrative agencies and 8 local governments selected as excellent institutions for the implementation of the 4th Comprehensive Library Development Plan. In addition, three outstanding deposit publishers, including Munhakdongne, Hanbit Media, and Hyundai Munhak, who have faithfully fulfilled the deposit system, will also receive awards.


Various cultural events will also take place. A fusion performance connecting literature and music will feature a lecture by science fiction (SF) novelist Bae Myunghoon and a piano performance collaboration by AI composer EvoM. In the outdoor yard of the National Library of Korea, cultural experience events such as ▲ outdoor reading (book picnic) ▲ board games played with books ▲ a glimpse into AI-based library services ▲ 360-degree 3D Library Day commemorative photo shoots ▲ book making ▲ and an exhibition of works by library culture and arts clubs will be held. In conjunction with the 'Seocho Book Street' festival, the 'Seocho Book Street Book Lunch' event, including a family Golden Bell quiz and making your own book, will also be operated.


Minister Yoo In-chon stated, "In a rapidly changing world with artificial intelligence and digital technology, libraries remain a foundation of knowledge that fosters creative thinking and a basic cultural infrastructure where anyone can freely enjoy knowledge culture," adding, "The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to support libraries to enhance cultural vitality close to the lives of the people and to resolve issues such as regional extinction and social isolation."
