Gyeonggi-do Promotes Small Library 'Mentoring and Specialized Cultural Projects'

Gyeonggi Province is promoting the 'Small Library Cooperation Support Project.'

On the 10th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will invest 200 million KRW to carry out a 'Mentoring Project' and a 'Specialized Cultural Project' targeting small libraries.

The Mentoring Project is a program in which small libraries with extensive operational experience participate as mentors to pass on operational know-how to small libraries seeking growth. It aims to support overall operational capacity enhancement, including collection management, planning of reading culture programs, and volunteer management, as well as to establish a win-win cooperation system among small libraries.

This year, Gyeonggi Province will select a total of 80 libraries, including 20 mentor libraries and 60 mentee libraries, matching three mentees to one mentor. Participating libraries will receive mentoring activity expenses (for mentors) and reading culture program operation expenses (for mentees).

Small libraries wishing to participate in the project can apply by the 17th of this month through the Gyeonggi Small Library Association (cafe.daum.net/kglili) or the Gyeonggi Cyber Library website (library.kr/cyber).

The Specialized Cultural Project is a program that supports the operation of customized programs reflecting regional characteristics and resident demands. This year, programs will be organized around topics of high interest to residents, such as climate and environment, artificial intelligence (AI), and companion animals, and 20 libraries will be selected through a separate contest later.

Park Min-gyeong, Director of the Library Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We expect small libraries to grow together through mutual cooperation projects and to establish themselves as community spaces where residents can enjoy diverse reading culture services."
