Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced that the 'Jungnangcheon Urban Agriculture Experience Learning Center,' established around Jangan 2 Waterfront Park, recently opened and started the 2025 farming season.
This year, a total of 3,032 households applied for the urban agriculture experience learning, and through a random computerized lottery, households were selected to be assigned 927 garden plots with a competition rate of about 3.3:1.
Residents will experience urban agriculture by planting and cultivating crops of their choice in the assigned garden plots. The rental fee for one garden plot is 10,000 KRW.
At the opening ceremony, 10 urban agriculture experts visited and provided proper cultivation method education and hands-on practice planting lettuce seedlings for the residents assigned garden plots.
Since the opening, with the arrival of spring and warmer weather, the agricultural experience center has become lively. Participating residents enjoyed a relaxing time by planting various crops, starting with the lettuce seedlings distributed on the opening day.
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We want to expand opportunities for residents to connect with nature through ecological education and more,” adding, “I hope the urban agriculture experience learning center will establish itself as a healthy leisure space and a place for communication among neighbors.”
