Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam conducted a concentrated crackdown on vehicles with habitual unpaid automobile taxes in observance of the Day for Comprehensive Seizure of Delinquent Vehicles.
The crackdown, which took place on March 31, was carried out jointly by Changwon City, five district offices, and town and township offices. Personnel for license plate seizure and enforcement vehicles were deployed simultaneously to conduct operations across the entire city.
The enforcement focused on areas with high vehicle density, such as apartment complexes, commercial districts, and back roads. Vehicles subject to seizure included those within the city and Gyeongnam Province with more than two unpaid automobile taxes, as well as vehicles from other cities or counties with more than three unpaid automobile taxes that had been requested for collection.
On this day, Changwon City seized 90 vehicles, and out of a total delinquent amount of 55,780,000 KRW, 12,370,000 KRW was collected on-site.
Owners of vehicles with seized license plates must pay all local tax arrears in full to have their plates returned. Payments can be made at town and township welfare centers, via virtual accounts, ARS, or bank ATMs (CD/ATM).
Kim Changwoo, head of the Taxation Division, stated, "Seizing license plates of delinquent vehicles is an unavoidable measure to ensure fairness with diligent taxpayers," adding, "In the future, we will mobilize various methods to strongly collect not only unpaid automobile taxes but also other habitual local tax delinquents."
