Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Konkuk University (President Won Jong-pil) on the 28th of last month to promote the 'Seoul-type RISE Project.'

The 'RISE Project' is a system in which the Ministry of Education transfers the authority to execute the university financial support budget to local governments such as Seoul City, allowing each region to proactively support university innovation and growth. The purpose of this project is for regions and universities to join forces and pursue mutual growth.

Through this agreement, the district and Konkuk University plan to form a consortium and jointly participate in the RISE public contest project hosted by Seoul City. If selected in the contest, they will receive project funding for a basic period of three years, with the possibility of extension up to two additional years based on performance evaluation.

The main cooperation tasks through the agreement include ▲ revitalizing the industry-academia cooperation ecosystem ▲ solving regional issues ▲ establishing the Seoul Future Nurturing Education Support Ecosystem ▲ advancing lifelong education in Seoul, with a total project budget of up to 3.7 billion KRW if selected.

Additionally, within the Konkuk University RISE project team, a 'Local Government-Industry-University Cooperation General Committee' will be formed to jointly lead the overall direction and execution of the project.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “Konkuk University is a representative educational institution of Gwangjin-gu, and through this agreement, we expect to create great synergy by combining Konkuk University's excellent education and research capabilities with local resources.” He added, “We will provide wholehearted support so that the Seoul-type RISE Project can become a model case of regional and university growth together.”
