The Rural Vitalization Promotion District is a system under the Gangwon Special Act that allows the governor to revoke agricultural promotion areas (absolute farmland) within a range of 4,000 hectares for development. Through this, areas previously restricted from development can now be developed with housing, commercial, and sports facilities, increasing land utilization.

Following the designation of the Deoksan district last year, the Wontong district was designated as a Rural Vitalization Promotion District this year, lifting farmland regulations on 412,484㎡ in the Wontong-ri area and changing its use to a planned management area to accelerate integrated urban development and improve residential conditions.

Accordingly, Inje-gun plans to promote various projects in the Wontong-ri area by 2030, including the construction of youth public rental housing, the establishment of a second agricultural industrial complex, and the creation of a park golf course. This project will invest a total of 159.7 billion KRW, including 14.6 billion KRW in national funds secured through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s 2024 regional proposal-type specialized public rental housing project competition.

In Wontong 1 district, which focuses on improving residents’ living conditions, housing will be constructed to prevent population outflow and improve residential satisfaction, such as youth public rental housing and youth rural homes. Additionally, considering the increase in middle-aged and elderly residents and retirees, living sports facilities and infrastructure will be established to enhance residents’ quality of life.

Meanwhile, Wontong 2 district, which focuses on rural development and job creation, plans to create industrial sites to expand urban infrastructure, increase jobs, realize rural development policies, lay the foundation for economic growth, and generate regional vitality.

An official from Inje-gun stated, “With the designation of the Rural Vitalization Promotion District, we will accelerate regional development through complex development encompassing housing, jobs (industry), and welfare, and proceed with the project step-by-step to create synergy effects in connection with the station area development project.”
