Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will provide 3.578 billion KRW in educational expense subsidies this year to 50 kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as other schools.
This year, the district plans to implement eight educational projects using the educational expense subsidies, including ▲support for high school field trip expenses ▲operation of distinctive programs for each school level ▲Geumbit School ▲GC Talent School ▲Global Citizenship Practice School ▲improvement of school educational environments ▲kindergarten support ▲and support for building smart educational environments.
The "High School Field Trip Expense Support Project" was established as the first of its kind among Seoul's autonomous districts. It plans to provide 20 million KRW per student, totaling 240 million KRW, to six high schools in the district for approximately 1,200 students participating in field trips.
This initiative is promoted to alleviate the financial burden on parents due to rising prices for field trip expenses and to help all students enjoy equal educational experiences regardless of their economic circumstances.
The "Distinctive Programs for Each School Level" project supports the operation of customized programs for each school, with a total allocation of 230 million KRW. Funds are provided for school-specific specialized programs and science club operations. Additionally, through the "Education Welfare Priority School Joint Support," where educational welfare communities and schools collaborate to assist students from vulnerable groups, school autonomy is enhanced, and diverse learning opportunities are offered to students.
Since 2019, the district has been operating "Geumbit School," which supports educational expenses for autonomous college entrance programs at four general high schools in the district. This year, a total of 600 million KRW will be provided. By 2025, 212 students were admitted to major four-year universities in Seoul, increasing the admission rate to top universities.
Other initiatives include support for specialized high schools and special-purpose high schools through the "GC Talent School Support" (160 million KRW), the "Global Citizenship Practice School" (50 million KRW) which fosters global citizens through overseas study and exploration programs, and projects to improve educational environments in kindergartens and schools at all levels (approximately 2.46 billion KRW).
A district official stated, "This year, an average of 70 million KRW per school and 224,000 KRW per student will be supported through educational expense subsidies, ranking 13th and 11th respectively among Seoul's autonomous districts."
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "Education is an important investment for the future," adding, "We will continue to allocate educational expenses appropriately to enhance trust in public education and do our best to provide students with a high-quality educational environment."
