Sacheon City and Gyeongnam Province Hold 4th Meeting of Comprehensive Task Force for Space Aviation Complex City Construction

Sacheon City in Gyeongnam Province announced on the 1st that the 4th meeting of the Comprehensive Promotion Team for the Construction of the Aerospace Convergence City was held at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government conference room, presided over by Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Kim Myungjoo (head of the promotion team).

Attendees included Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Kim Myungjoo (head of the team), Gyeongnam Provincial Director of Industry Yoo Myunghyun (co-deputy head), and Sacheon City Vice Mayor Kim Jehong (co-deputy head). Officials from Gyeongnam Province and Sacheon City, as well as experts from industry, academia, and research, participated to discuss strategies for the construction of the Aerospace Convergence City.

The meeting began with a report on the current status of establishing the metropolitan development plan for the Aerospace Convergence City area, followed by reports on the progress of major projects by relevant departments, and concluded with a discussion on strategies for the construction of the Aerospace Convergence City.

An official at the meeting stated that the session served as an opportunity to review the progress of various policies aimed at improving residential conditions such as transportation, education, culture, and tourism, and to discuss countermeasures. In particular, during the discussion on the construction plan for the Aerospace Convergence City, significant opinions were raised regarding the need for the development plan for the Gyeongnam metropolitan area, linkage with Sacheon City's urban development projects, expansion of the Aerospace Convergence City area, and the discovery of new national projects for the metropolitan area.

In addition, Sacheon City expressed its gratitude for securing the new headquarters of the Korea Aerospace Administration in Sacheon and requested active cooperation from the preparation team and Gyeongnam Province for the early construction of the Aerospace Convergence City, including political activities and signature campaigns for the enactment of the "Special Act on the Construction of the Aerospace Convergence City" and focused discussions on building an industry-academia-research cluster centered on the Korea Aerospace Administration.

Following the promotion team meeting, the "Aerospace Convergence City Area Local Government Working Council," which included six local governments?Gyeongnam Province, Sacheon, Jinju, Goseong, Namhae, Hadong, and Sancheong?as well as the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, was also held. The meeting discussed the establishment of regional development plans and ways to identify key projects for the construction of the Aerospace Convergence City.

A city official said, "As the construction of the Aerospace Convergence City moves forward in earnest, the creation of the aerospace industry ecosystem is accelerating. We will do our best to establish an innovative hub organically linking research and development, education, and industry centered on the Korea Aerospace Administration, so that we can leap forward as a global center for aerospace."

Meanwhile, Sacheon City is achieving concrete results for the construction of the Aerospace Convergence City, such as the opening of the National Changwon University Aerospace Campus in line with the launch of the new Korea Aerospace Administration headquarters, the selection of Samcheonpo Jungang High School as an autonomous public high school and IB pilot school (Samcheonpo Jungang High School, Yongnam High School), and passing the central investment review for the construction of a public rental knowledge industry center.
