Robot company Watt has successfully conducted a pilot operation of the ‘Porter Robot’ service within an apartment complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul, demonstrating the feasibility of smart residential robots in everyday life. On the 31st, Watt announced that it had carried out the ‘Porter Robot’ service in collaboration with Samsung C&T over the past three months.

The Porter Robot service is a lifestyle-oriented robot solution implemented through Watt’s autonomous driving technology and operation system. In particular, it enables porter services, which were previously provided by personnel in luxury hotels and apartments, to be operated at reasonable prices in general apartment complexes as well.

The Porter Robot is an autonomous driving robot that controls automatic doors and elevators, equipped with Swerve Drive technology that allows smooth movement even inside elevators or narrow corridors, and a design that can reliably overcome fire door thresholds over 3 cm high. It can be easily introduced not only in newly built but also in existing apartment complexes.

During this operation, the Porter Robot transported luggage between the underground parking lot and residential units, earning high satisfaction from residents. Many responses noted that it was convenient for moving heavy and large items such as shopping bags or furniture, and was a great help when going out with children. Initially, only one-way delivery from the parking lot to the units was provided, but the service was expanded to two-way delivery upon residents’ requests, further enhancing usability and satisfaction.

Starting with this service, Watt plans to advance lifestyle robot services based on smart home integration and actively promote the expansion of popular smart residential robot services beyond specific luxury apartments. Currently, it is preparing to expand services in cooperation with construction and management companies, focusing on existing apartment complexes.

Choi Jaewon, CEO of Watt, stated, “This is a case that proves robots are not just simple exhibits but technologies that add value to real life,” and added, “We will strive to ensure that robots naturally blend into the daily lives of residents in more complexes in the future.”

Meanwhile, Watt recently began its global market entry in earnest by exporting its solution to Yamato Transport, Japan’s largest logistics company, last month.
