Gyeonggi Province announced on the 28th that it will carry out the ‘Climate Gap Reduction Welfare Facility Cooling and Heating Equipment Support Project’ in collaboration with Korea Electric Power Corporation (Gyeonggi Northern Headquarters, Gyeonggi Headquarters), providing support for the purchase of high-efficiency cooling and heating equipment to 310 social welfare facilities in 12 cities and counties including Goyang and Yongin.
The Climate Gap Reduction Welfare Facility Cooling and Heating Equipment Support Project targets social welfare facilities such as community welfare centers, elderly medical welfare facilities, and residential facilities for the disabled. When installing high-efficiency cooling and heating equipment (energy efficiency grade 1 certified products) at the facilities, 100% of the product purchase price (up to 3.2 million KRW) is supported. This is a new project for this year.
This project was established to reduce the climate gap among residents, improve energy efficiency, and realize energy welfare amid the worsening social and economic polarization caused by climate change. On October 16 last year, Gyeonggi Province and Korea Electric Power Corporation (Gyeonggi Northern Headquarters, Gyeonggi Headquarters) signed the ‘Gyeonggi Province-type EERS (Energy Efficiency Resource Standard) Agreement for Climate Gap Reduction.’ Accordingly, KEPCO covers 50% of the total project cost of 1 billion KRW, with the remainder borne by Gyeonggi Province and the cities and counties.
The 310 target facilities were selected through demand surveys conducted by the cities and counties.
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, “We expect that supporting high-efficiency cooling and heating equipment will reduce the economic burden on social welfare facilities struggling due to climate change,” and added, “We will continue to strive to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs for energy-vulnerable groups.”
