Former Prime Minister Kim emphasized that it is now time to do what must be done, calling it a "crisis of the constitutional order." He said, "We must not overlook President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment or the wildfires threatening people's livelihoods."
Former National Assembly Secretary-General Lee Kwang-jae also welcomed the court's decision through his Facebook post, saying, "Let us now unite the hearts of all citizens and move forward toward a new Republic of Korea."
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon also said, "Justice has been served," adding, "It is fortunate that the prosecution's excessive indictment has been corrected at last."
Lee was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation in the first trial for violating the Public Official Election Act, but on this day, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 6-2 (Presiding Judges Choi Eun-jung, Lee Ye-seul, Jung Jae-oh) overturned the verdict and acquitted him in the second trial.
