As the Constitutional Court's ruling date on the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol becomes a matter of intense interest, Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform New Party, predicted that it is highly likely to be postponed until April.
On the 26th, Lee appeared on KBS Radio's 'Jeonggyeok Sisa' and said, "If today's second trial verdict on Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, results in increased social turmoil, the Constitutional Court is likely to decide to delay its judgment for a certain period."
He explained, "The fact that the court decided not to release any separate explanatory materials regarding the second trial verdict on Lee indicates that they are taking the social impact of the ruling very seriously," adding, "The Constitutional Court is also likely to set its internal schedule after observing the aftermath of this verdict."
Regarding voices from the opposition calling for the re-impeachment of Acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, he said, "That is not possible."
He pointed out, "Because everyone expects that the ruling on President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment will eventually come out sometime before the judges' terms end on April 18," and added, "If they cannot wait a few days and bring up impeachment like this, it would raise suspicions that the only reason is that Lee Jae-myung's trial schedule is moving forward."
He continued, "What would public opinion be if someone who has just been released from impeachment is immediately subjected to another impeachment?" and said, "I think the Democratic Party is too desperate. Inducing situations that paralyze state affairs without any practical benefit is not the behavior of a responsible political party."
