Chairmen of major financial holding companies received tens of billions of won in compensation last year despite internal control failures.


According to the '2024 Business Report' disclosed by each financial holding company on the 18th, Yang Jong-hee, Chairman of KB Financial Group, received a total of 1.848 billion won last year.


Specifically, he received 900 million won in salary and 948 million won in bonuses.


This is nearly 300 million won more than in 2023 (1.555 billion won).


Jin Ok-dong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, received a total compensation of 1.522 billion won last year (850 million won in salary and 671 million won in bonuses, etc.), more than double the 659 million won in 2023.


Ham Young-joo, Chairman of Hana Financial Group, disclosed an annual compensation of 2.2744 billion won. Specifically, this included 900 million won in salary, 1.372 billion won in bonuses, and 2.4 million won in welfare benefits. This is about 20 million won more than the previous year's 2.253 billion won.


Lim Jong-ryong, Chairman of Woori Financial Group, received 1.144 billion won last year. This consisted of 850 million won in salary, 284 million won in bonuses, and 10 million won in other labor income.


This is about 500 million won more than in 2023 (652 million won), reportedly because he received a short-term performance bonus last year for his role as chairman in 2023.


The annual compensation of major commercial bank presidents also exceeded 1 billion won. In particular, some former presidents who ended their terms at the end of last year received more than 2.6 billion won, including performance bonuses and retirement pay, surpassing the chairmen.


Former KB Kookmin Bank President Lee Jae-geun received a total of 2.62 billion won, including 700 million won in salary and 1.82 billion won in bonuses. Notably, the long-term performance bonus among the bonuses reached 1.331 billion won.


Former Hana Bank President Lee Seung-yeol's total compensation was 1.252 billion won, consisting of 699 million won in salary and 551 million won in bonuses.


Former Woori Bank President Cho Byung-kyu received a total of 1.068 billion won. He received 698 million won in salary and 307 million won in bonuses, with retirement income and other labor income disclosed as 49 million won and 14 million won, respectively.


Current Shinhan Bank President Jung Sang-hyuk's total income last year was 1.235 billion won, an increase of 220 million won compared to the previous year.
