According to the legal community on the 17th, Lee's side submitted a notice of non-appearance as a witness to the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 22 (Chief Judge Jo Hyung-woo) on the 14th. Previously, the court had announced at the trial on the 18th of last month that Lee would be summoned as a witness on the 21st for questioning.

The court is hearing allegations of breach of trust involving major private contractors in Daejang-dong, including Kim Man-bae, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu Asset Management, former Seongnam Urban Development Corporation Planning Director Yoo Dong-gyu, lawyer Nam Wook, and accountant Jung Young-hak.

The so-called 'Daejang-dong group' was brought to trial on charges including causing Seongnam Urban Development Corporation a loss of 489.5 billion won in connection with the Daejang-dong development project conducted during Lee's tenure as mayor of Seongnam.

Meanwhile, Lee is also separately on trial at the Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Chief Judge Lee Jin-gwan) along with Jeong Jin-sang, former director of political coordination at the party leader’s office, on charges of approving a development project structure favorable to them during his tenure as mayor of Seongnam, causing losses to the corporation.
