Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 16th that it will accept applications from talents in related fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) until the 20th for the selection of scholarship students in science and engineering fields.
Since 2001, the district has been working together with the Munju Scholarship Foundation, which has been conducting scholarship projects in various fields, to support AI and ICT talents who will lead future industries. In particular, with Yangjae and Umyeon-dong areas designated as AI special zones last year, Seocho-gu is drawing attention as a key area that will determine the national AI competitiveness, and thus is actively engaged in nurturing talents in related fields.
Applicants must be university students (sophomore or above) or graduate students from households that have resided in Seocho-gu for more than one year as of the announcement date, and must be majoring in science and engineering-related fields. The district plans to select a total of 30 scholarship students based on priority according to announced criteria such as academic performance and major. These students will receive full tuition fees for one semester as scholarships.
Students and parents wishing to apply for the scholarship can visit Seocho-gu Office (Education Support Division) with the application form and required documents to submit their applications. For more details, information can be found in the notice section on the Seocho-gu Office website. After the application period ends, the final recipients will be confirmed within this month through internal review, and the Munju Scholarship Foundation will then provide the scholarships.
Meanwhile, among the selected scholarship students, those who wish will have the opportunity to participate as mentors in the ’2025 Summer Vacation Science Camp‘ for elementary school students operated by the district. It is expected that talents in science and engineering fields will create a virtuous cycle of education by engaging in creative scientific exploration activities together with the new generation of students.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “To leap forward as a global AI hub in the future, support and investment in talents in this field are crucial,” adding, “We will seek ways to continuously support talents in related fields through this scholarship selection.”
