GS Retail's convenience store GS25 announced on the 13th that it has formed a partnership with Google Play to strengthen the competitiveness of its 'gift card' business.
At the partnership event held at GS Retail headquarters in Yeoksam GS Tower, GS Retail's BU Head Oh Jin-seok, Director Heo Chi-hong, and Division Head Lee Ki-cheol attended, along with Google Play's Vice President of Asia Koi, East Asia General Manager Taka, Asia General Manager Anna, and East Asia Operations Manager Irene.
During the event, both companies discussed ▲strengthening data-driven joint marketing ▲activating sales of 'Point Of Sales Activation (POSA)' gift cards ▲and the organic use of online and offline channels.
The Google Play gift cards sold by GS25 have become a core service, with annual sales reaching approximately 90 billion KRW. The growing popularity of these gift cards as gifts for teenagers was a major factor behind this partnership. GS25 began selling Google Play gift cards, which can be used to purchase games, movies, apps, and more on the mobile Google Store, in 2013.
GS25 plans to carry out various marketing activities to boost sales of Google Play gift cards through this partnership with Google Play.
First, GS25 intends to utilize its approximately 18,000 stores as key channels for selling Google Play gift cards. Additionally, based on GS25's revamped new membership program, 'GS ALL Membership,' various promotions linked to Google gift cards will be conducted within the year.
Jeon Byung-joon, Manager of GS Retail's Service Product Team, stated, “GS25 will collaborate with Google Play to carry out diverse marketing activities centered on 'gift cards' and provide differentiated customer experiences. Through this partnership, we aim to maximize synergy between the two companies and continuously grow POSA sales.”
