Baekho, President of Seoul Metro, announced on the 11th that he visited Anguk Station on Line 3 and Hangangjin Station on Line 6 to conduct on-site safety inspections in preparation for urban rallies.

Anguk Station and Hangangjin Station have recently seen concentrated crowds due to urban rallies. On March 8, the number of passengers boarding and alighting at Anguk Station due to the urban rally was 80,839, an increase of 103% compared to the previous week (Sat, March 1, 2025) and 170% compared to the previous year (Sat, March 9, 2024). At Hangangjin Station, the number of passengers boarding and alighting was 39,708, an increase of 161% compared to the previous week and 135% compared to the previous year.

Seoul Metro is implementing special safety management measures at seven stations including City Hall Station and Gwanghwamun Station in preparation for consecutive urban rallies. Due to concerns about safety accidents caused by crowd congestion on the day of the impeachment trial verdict, Anguk Station on Line 3, where the Constitutional Court is located, has announced plans to close the station, and closure of Hangangjin Station, where the presidential residence is located, is under consideration depending on crowd congestion.

During his visit to Anguk and Hangangjin Stations, President Baekho emphasized the highest level of safety management to preemptively eliminate risk factors for accidents caused by large crowds and congestion inside stations and trains, and to prepare for any possible safety incidents.

To minimize inconvenience to passengers due to the closure of Anguk Station, President Baekho instructed thorough prior notification, additional deployment of safety personnel during closure, and preparation of entrance control measures in cooperation with the police.

If the closure of Anguk Station is not implemented depending on the situation, non-stop passage will be enforced in case of safety concerns.

Furthermore, President Baekho inspected safety management measures in preparation for the closure of Anguk Station and instructed the establishment of thorough congestion control measures targeting nearby Jongno 3-ga Station and Jonggak Station, where a concentration of passengers including rally participants, nearby office workers, and tourists is expected.

President Baekho stated, “As tension rises ahead of the presidential impeachment trial verdict, our corporation is also on high alert to prepare for any possible safety accidents,” and added, “We will ensure there are no gaps in citizen safety through thorough prior preparation.”
