Kwon Seong-dong "Lee Election Law Final Verdict Must Be Delivered by June 26... Proposes National Assembly Resolution for Speedy Trial"

"Absurd Claim That Trials Will Halt if Elected, an Arrogant Act"
"Proposal to Adopt a Bipartisan National Assembly Resolution for Swift Trials"

Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, asserted on the 4th that the final verdict on the Public Official Election Act concerning Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, must be made before June 26. In this regard, he proposed the adoption of a National Assembly resolution urging a final judgment through bipartisan agreement.

At the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Kwon said, "Lee, who is facing eight cases, twelve charges, and five trials?a comprehensive set of crimes?and his shield forces have recently been pushing the absurd argument that 'if Lee is elected president, the trials will be halted,'" adding, "Instead of reflecting and introspecting before the judiciary's ruling, their very notion of expecting the public to grant them a pardon is an arrogant act."

He stated, "The judiciary should not be swayed by the shield forces' absurd arguments and must deliver a fair judgment before all people," and added, "All trials involving Lee, including perjury coaching, Daejang-dong, Baekhyeon-dong, illegal remittance to North Korea, and misuse of corporate cards, must proceed swiftly regardless of the political schedule." Regarding this, Floor Leader Kwon said, "The starting point must be the restoration of Article 6-3-3 of the Public Official Election Act, which has been uniquely powerless only in front of Lee Jae-myung," and emphasized, "The Supreme Court must deliver the final verdict by June 26 to restore public trust in the judiciary." He continued, "I also hope that options to deliver the final judgment in May, to make up for the approximately 40 days lost in the second trial, will be considered." This means that after the second trial verdict scheduled for the 26th of this month, the Supreme Court should finalize the final judgment within three months.

He also proposed the adoption of a National Assembly resolution urging the judiciary to make a swift judgment. He said, "The People Power Party proposes to the Democratic Party to adopt a National Assembly resolution through bipartisan agreement, urging the Supreme Court to deliver the final judgment by June 26 for social stability and restoration of trust in the judiciary."
