'Home Alone' Kevin's Brother Becomes Oscar-Winning Actor

Macaulay Culkin's Younger Brother...
A Stable Career Unlike His Sibling
Sweeps Major Best Supporting Actor Awards with "Real Pain"

The child actor who appeared in the movie Home Alone and played the main character Kevin McCallister, Macaulay Culkin's younger brother, has become an Oscar-winning actor.

On the 2nd (local time), at the 97th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, USA, Kieran Culkin won the Best Supporting Actor award for the film Real Pain.

Real Pain was written, directed, and starred in by Jesse Eisenberg, who gained fame from movies such as The Social Network and Now You See Me. Eisenberg, a Polish-Jewish descendant, created this autobiographical road movie based on his experience visiting the hometown of his aunt who survived the Holocaust 20 years ago.

In the film, Culkin plays Benji, who travels with his cousin David (Eisenberg) to the hometown of their grandmother who survived the Holocaust.

Kieran Culkin is Macaulay Culkin's younger brother and the third and fourth of seven siblings from a poor family. Both debuted as child actors and appeared in Home Alone parts 1 and 2. Kieran Culkin played Fuller McCallister, Kevin's cousin.

The Home Alone series was a worldwide hit, but Macaulay Culkin, who gained great popularity as a child actor, stopped acting due to his parents' excessive greed to profit from his fame. After struggling with issues such as drug use for a while, Macaulay Culkin made a successful comeback in the 2020s through various independent films and broadcasts.

Kieran Culkin did not receive as much spotlight as his brother, but after becoming an adult, he steadily built a stable acting career through supporting and minor roles in dramas and indie films. He swept almost all Best Supporting Actor awards at ceremonies such as the Golden Globes, British Academy, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for Real Pain. Earlier, in 2023, he also won the Best Actor in a Drama Series award for the HBO series Succession.

Meanwhile, Real Pain won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at last year's Sundance Film Festival and the Best Screenplay award at the British Academy Awards on the 16th of last month.

He also debuted in the film industry as a former child actor, appearing as the cousin in Home Alone, starring his older brother Macaulay Culkin.

On the 2nd (local time), at the 97th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles (LA), Kieran Culkin took home the Best Supporting Actor award for the film Real Pain.

Culkin swept various awards such as the Critics' Choice and Screen Actors Guild for his role as Benji in Real Pain. Following the Golden Globe Awards held in January, he also received the honor of Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards on this day.
